Got this cent back in change today. Feels like a great find. Maybe anyone of you experienced fellas out there could give me your take on condition or value?

She's been around the block a few times, but it is cool to find one in change. I haven't done that in 50 years.

It has damage so it would not straight grade, but it would probably net a G4-6 (Good 4 - Good 6).

As for value, it's a common date and a common grade and damaged to boot, so basically as much as someone will pay you for it. Probably a buck or so.

But serioulsy, it's incredible to get one in circulation. I can't imagine the things this coin has seen!

I'm new to this site and I have had a lot of coins I've acquired anywhere from 1861 Morgan to a steel 40's penny. I love the history of anything. (I collect Indian arrowheads more than anything) but have a case full of old US coins. But I found it kind of odd and lucky I got this back in change!

That is pretty cool to find in change. I thought I was lucky to get a 1945 wheatie
last weekend. Been along time for that.

An "1861 Morgan" is an interesting find, as they didn't start minting them until 1878. :)

Nice find. It's been a long time for me. I would guess the value to be about $1.

1861? Sounds to me like you've got a seated Liberty dollar.

I apologize the year was inaccurate. I didn't have them in front of me at the time.

That would've been so awesome if that 1896 was a San Francisco mint welcome to the forum.

What makes the year/mint so special?

in 1896 the SF mint only produced 5 million so that makes it a harder date to find. Even in xf condition it could bring nearly $300 mint state your talking thousands $$$$

@Golden age here are some over all pics of the US coins. Not very good (I know) if you happen to see any you need a better view on let me know. (I know very well what the military tokens are, my family holds a place in my collection) 1922 Peace Dollar, 1896 Morgan, 1942 Liberty Dollar, various years 50¢ pieces, 1978 Morgan, bicentennial quarters, bicentennial dollar, bicentennial half dollar, buffalo nickels, mercury dimes, V nickels a steel penny. Very standard (in my opinion) collection. I also have a pile of foreign currency. 1940's- 2001. Like I said my real collection passion is on other shelves. Stone. Thanks for your or anyone else's input. You guys have been awesome.
