Thread title: My Most Beautiful Coin Photo So Far, Post Yours! The thread's purpose is to show beautiful photos of coins, not just coins you own which are your most beautiful. Hasty snapshots of a stellar coin not even removed from its cheap flip, poor quality auction house images... that doesn't cut it
While I fully agree with TIF's opinion on the inappropriate posts of nice coins imaged with no effort whatsoever, the fact remains that pretty coins are often considered easier to photograph well than ugly ones. Perhaps we should have asked for the best photo of the worst coin. Anyone can make a Hollywood star look like a Hollywood star. The question is whether you can make me look like a Hollywood star. Doug's right. How do we take a sow's ear and make it look like a silk purse? Now that is the challenge. This coin was very hard to photograph because the detail is so worn. But I think I captured as much detail as is possible. So here is my sow's ear: ANONYMOUS ROMAN REPUBLIC Æ Uncia Obv.: Helmeted head of Roma left, pellet behind Rev.: Galley prow right, ROMA above, pellet below Rome mint, 217-215 BC 25mm, 8.8g, 3h Reference: Crawford 38/6, Sydenham 86 , BMC 88 Ex JAZ Numismatics
Wow, you guys take some amazing photos!! (congrats on loving this side of the hobby) ... sadly, I hate taking photos ... => oh, but I love great photos and I guess I often buy coins because the photo is so pretty? (again, I appreciate great photos) ... I can't play guitar, but I love music as much as anybody I know!! Funny, although I love the "jazz-hands" photos of AJ & TIF, I am such a huge fan of the good ol' white/non-background ... I seem to be a minority? Regardless, congrats to all of you guys that sweat the photos (I appreciate the effort) Ummm, for here are a few of my stevex6 efforts ... ... "FAIL" ...
I do have this group shot of Vijayabahu coins. The middle one I do have have an x-ray analysis of (and all noted limitations in such technology) The first is bronze The second is described as AR (of legendary rarity) yet in assay it is 6.11% gold, 47.84 % Silver and 44.78% copper, 0.01% Indium, 0.01% Zinc and 0.02% Nickel. (approx 1.47 Carat) The last is gold-gold for all intended purpose but I suspect to be about 50-80 Gold mixed with copper. It has a bit of a reddish color when compared to coins off higher gold content. Like my Vasu Deva Gold Dinar.(Also a nice photo in my opinion) Also note the bronze is attributed to Vijayabahu II/ IV but probably II.
way too much black Oh, sorry Noob ... I meant awesome photos (man, sometimes I never know when to be truthful and/or when to tow the line?)
@TIF I have always liked your Silenos Litra photo a lot. To me it is a toss up between that one and Joe's Clazomenae.
I like my combo pics better than one piece at a time. Roman Plumb Bob as a symbol on a coin by the real thing Pre-money, three different cast bronze pieces: bar with lines, Ax piece & broken plate with designs
