1889 CC Unc loose?

Something doesn't look right here..."book value on this coin is approximately 25k"...

This is a raw Carson City Silver Dollar from the year 1889. This coin has beautiful rainbow toning on both sides and is in excellent uncirculated condition. You will see there are no rim dings and no wear on any of the surfaces. This rare VAM 5A Variety has the Far Date, Dropped C and Die Breaks O-E-D. Book value on this coin is approximately 25k.

Not unc. XF details. I don't see anything that screams fake so my guess is it was slabbed details and seller cracked it to try to get more $$ on a story. Seems to be working to. That's a $1500 coin. Hopefully no more bids are placed.

At least he got the VAM right which tells me he most likely knows enough to know that's an XF details coin

 

I don't know what to think, but I see wear. The date looks funky. Could be real, but with my knowledge, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

 

It's real just messed with. He nailed the VAM

 

Wasn't even worth my time to look at it. Just your average cleaned EF 1889 CC Morgan.

and the 99.00 shipping seems to be a red flag too.

 

Yeah, I thought cleaned and/or polished.

 

Seller played with the angles, lighting, and photo editing software to adjust the softness of the coins surface. The photo he screwed up on was the final one which shows the pitting on the eagles wing. Im sure he tried to remove that photo but it was too late once a bid was placed.

That toning looks jacked up due to all the adjustments of the contrast, brightness, brilliance, and everything else made to soften the surface appearance.

Nice assesment. But the toning looks jacked up because he polished and dipped it and it retoned fugly

 

On the bidding list, "7***4" has been juicing the price since monday.

Well that went for $1k more than it should have

 

Someone is going to be disappointed when they decide to submit it then figure out its too late to dispute the inaccurate description through ebay.

I believe a SNAD claim can be filed up to 60 days. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone

 

1889CC Morgans in decent shape are not "loose" coins. Wonder if that was cracked out of a details slab.

Wonder who bought it? An inexperienced collector or perhaps one of these see-you-in-hell-before-I-buy-a-slabbed-coin types -- in this case with an ego bigger than his coin judgment ability.

 

So many problems with this once beautiful Morgan...and I don't think I have ever seen 99.00 to ship.
