Found this old banger on Ebay......... * 1876-CC * SOLID+ GEM BU MS SEATED LIBERTY QUARTER * FROM ORIGINAL COLLECTION | eBay You look at it, and what does it look like? Possibly a MS-63? Likely 63 PL? Maybe MS-62 or MS-64 PL? I men, the coin has great mirroring, right? Wrong. Cleaned, AU details. PCGS crackout. First of all, I am not suggesting that PCGS rules. I have seen clearly cleaned key date coins in straight-graded PCGS holders, along with accurately graded and undergraded coins, just like any other service. Okay, so here's a total rundown of what Denver Coins Co is doing with the coin from the "original collection": (yes, I know pigs can fly ) Bid as of 8 PM (10/26): $727 Looks close to, if not the exact coin, 1876-CC Seated Liberty Quarter PCGS Genuine AU Details (Item 1501597) | GreatCollections Coin Auctions Investment: $253.12 Total profit after postage and Fee-bays: ~$370 So, this is the summary: they took a cleaned coin, AU, even GRADED for God's sake, cracked it out, and are selling it as the next big thing. Remember, if it straight-grades at a TPG, it is not always a straight-grade! If ya want it, replicate their buying and try to bargain at GreatCollections.
I'm not a fan of their actions either so it is fun to see some of their crackouts not work out (it looks like they bought the toner pictured below at GC on Oct 6-in a straight graded Anacs holder-and then sold it raw for less than they paid). see my thread here and some photos below: https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1108207/i-wouldn-t-have-cracked-that
That does seem to be their business model, but the subject coin is not the same as the GC coin. The dates are in different positions.
Does not appear to be the same coin to me. Have a look at the date and the die crack that runs through it. It does not exist in the GC coin. The GC coin appears to have more wear and handling marks. Also don't see the hit thru the left breast and left wrist on the GC coin.
