The wife had a surprise for me today. I am not a US coin guy, outside from classic commemoratives, but this was a welcomed surprise...it's in a PCGS holder, MS-65, and beaned. I took this preliminary image as Idon't have my photography set up with me at the moment. I'll take better images later. The reverse particularly is very proof-like, the front a little less but still has plenty of luster that this image doesn't capture as well, but I can improve on that later once I have my regular set up for photos.
Can't wait for the photos, The majority of the coins from the San Fran mint from 78' to 82' have a semi PL or near PL look to them. These coins are very well critiqued during the grading process.
Better photo. Maybe could be a little better, but it's good enough for the registry. You can see the reverse is so proof-like. Front not so, but still a nice one.
Very nice Morgan. You're very lucky to have a wife that would even attempt a coin as a gift for you. My wife has learned about silver coins, wheaties, and things that might be just a bit different, and she'll bring those finds home to me. She actually found a 1909 VDB in circulation once and brought that puppy home to me. So I'm lucky in that respect. However, she'd never buy a coin for me as a gift. I know you've been around these here parts for closing in on 10 years, in a year. I also know from your posts that you focus on ancients. I think they're a cool part of history, but I know virtually less than nothing about them. With that said, I'd like to preface this next comment with the prelude that this is done with the utmost respect and not meant to offend you. With US coins the 'front' of the coin is referred to as the obverse. You referenced the reverse of your Morgan correctly, so no comment there. Again, beautiful gift from your wife. Maybe she can offer a seminar for other significant others that don't share the same collecting passion as their spouse to teach them how to select an appropriate hobby related gift. I know my wife, and kids for that matter, haven't a clue what to get me. They all say I'm the toughest person to buy gifts for. And I think I'm the easiest person to give gifts to. I've got numerous hobbies and collections they could add to. All it would take would be the slightest bit of CSI work to select something within my wheelhouse.
