Will this coin upgrade a point if Re-submitted to a tpg?? (27 years later) If you were selling this coin(I am)What would the price tag say? many o thanks extended coin family! BTW this coin has good luster and the label has caused it to tone a nice russet magenta and blue
It could potentially make MS65, but my only MS65 NGC/CAC Walker has better luster and an excellent strike too. Yours is a really nice coin, but technically 64 or 64+ seems to be an accurate grade in my opinion. But what do I know about WLH's... let's wait for other opinions ;-)
This market grading is just so arbitrary. I wouldn't bat an eye if that were in an MS65 holder. The grader held it down for the dark toning as there's nothing else holding it out of gem.
Not to be a downer, but it seems to me the discoloration on Liberty's bust, hand and thigh hurt this coin a little bit (Unless it looks different in hand). Could easy be a technical 65, but I'm thinking strong 64 money is about what it will sell for. JMHO
You know what my take on these old holders is Heavy. I leave it alone, if you're looking to flip it do you think spending the fees to re grade would be covered by the money difference tween a 64/65? You have a nice coin in a slab that can't be replaced , I'm sure in hand it looks a lot better than your images. I personally if I was going to flip it leave it be and talk it up to a buyer as an ungraded coin with eye appeal, and thus worth 65 money. Let the coin sell itself ,with a little help of suggestion from your lips.
^This exactly. Looking at ebay sales an MS 65 would get you $60-$75 compared to $35-$45 for an MS 64. Even an MS 66 can be had for $100-$115. It's not worth the grading costs and the holder alone will get you close to MS 65 prices.
Oops, I guess I should have reiterated , I'm not gonna crack it. I just thought it had a nice look and no distractions anywhere to be seen . It looks like an MS65 to my eye but It's always good to get the opinions of others
Wow I guess I'm behind on knowing the price structure for common date walkers. So I am curious what you all think it should be priced at. I can see it selling for maybe $70 dollars, but in my mind that wasn't 65 money when I made my previous comment.........
Hence why I created this thread This coin is being showcased at a very large antique show in Columbus Ohio, Fri-Sat-Sun 10-4 Ohio State Fairgrounds I'll update the thread when/if it sells, I think I'll put a $90 price tag on it and see what happens
The toning noted by others does not lower the grade. The surfaces are clean, but the luster is hard to determine very well from the photos. With a little interpretation, I don't have a problem with it at the gem level. I agree with those that say the price difference is not worth the crossover grading fees, and yes, there are many collectors that actively seek out older generation ANACS coins. During that specific era, they were very conservative and are usually on par or even on the conservative side compared to modern PCGS/NGC standards with upgrades possible.
