Purchased from Atlas. Not related to my core collection but really liked the Wildman theme on reverse and overall appearance. 1791 ICK. GERMAN STATES. Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt 1/2 Taler. Friedrich Karl. Saalfeld. KM 133; Jaeger 20; Fischer 587.Obv: Bust of Friederick Karl facing left. Rev: Two nude bushmen aside the coat of arms. Superb lustrous gem, attractively toned. NGC MS-65.
Those are fairly "modern" Wild Men! I'm much more used to the 16th or 17th century ones. Great toning.
This is a beautiful well struck example for the issue, and very well graded. Lately NGC is grading very well and applicably - I might even add a bonus CHECK POINT on this one for EYE APPEAL.
The coin is in very nice shape for being over 200-years old. Was it in someone's coin cabinet? I believe that the Wild Man on the right is actually a Wild Woman.
Absolutely splendid coin. The thing is absolutely hammered, obverse and reverse. Great lovely colors developed over the years (centuries) also.
