Probably my favorite lady on coins or in art for that matter. Bur what is her history, her origin? "The profile of the Marianne appears on the official seal of the country, is engraved on coins, and drawn on stamps and banknotes. The symbol’s roots can be traced back to 1792, when a popular song in the south of France used "Marianne" as a metaphor for the French Republic. The Marianne rose in status during France’s Second Empire under Napoleon III, and gradually evolved into an official symbol of France under the Third Republic (1870-1940). In 1999, a law was passed in France requiring that a new government logo, which incorporates the Marianne, be stamped on every official document produced by the French authorities. The Marianne serves to both unify government public relations and present a modern image of the state." Here's a coin I rediscovered that I had put aside to image because of the toning. If you wish, please share your favorite Marianne.
My favorite Marianne coin is the same as yours. This coin has an unusual toning too. It shows detail very well.
Marianne is among my favorites also. Great looking stuff posted. I have a lot of these types, coins and French medals. Here's a few... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marianne
Wow, great looking coins! You guys have excellent imaging skills... cpm9ball, that medal showing Marianne blowing a trumpet was a medal I once owned and admired (exposition on the other side I believe). Nice and large, in a deep chocolate, it was my first medal. Doctorxring I have never seen detail like that on a 10c-remarkable! Old49er, I love your first example(as well as the rest).
This one needs re-imaging with my new camera/light set up, but this is my cell phone shot (obverse only). Edge marked argent, but the local auction house had it listed as bronze and had fairly unremarkable photos. Being there in person was sheer luck as I got it for the bronze price range .
