Thin 1890 Indian Head Cent w/ rolled or folded planchet

Any expert advice on this coin? Weighs 1.76 grams, well under the expected 3.11. Error type etc? Thanks.

Looks like the planchet split in half. If so, it’s a nice error.

Looks like legit delam/split planchet. Very cool. But weird that it’s that circulated?

 

They are quite worn but they are part silver and during the WWII years. Coins were not saved, they circulated.

 

Not quite what I was saying. I used to think that a split planchet would occur fairly immediately after minting and both halves would be found in a mint bag (for example). This coin (both coins) clearly split many years after mintage. While it surely involves a poor quality planchet it is interesting the effectively the mint error only manifests itself decades after production.

 

Sometimes a split planchet will be in a mint bag or the same roll. Even though it’s thin a machine only recognizes it as one piece. Very rarely can the same person get both halves as coins circulated and went different ways.
