The coin with all its good points shows texture (dark in photo) on both sides but worse on reverse far beyond what could allow a 5 for surfaces. Since all we have is a photo, it is hard to say whether this uneven texture is bad enough to call a 3 but all the other specimens (many worn or otherwise lesser) strike me as having better surfaces. This is a coin I would never remove from the slab. It would not be criticized by buyers of slabs but the features that led to it getting 4's would offset demand for an unworn coin in the raw market. Some of us would rather have Ajax' worn but well struck and smooth example. That is why they made a million of them - we each can find the one we like.
