Some of you might remember i did a $20 large cent set back a few years ago.. regretably due to financial issues i had to sell the set... (actualy made a profit lol)
So now that i'm back I'm going to restart the set again and see just how nice a set of LCs i can build for only $20 each :D
not a bad start.. just got this one tonight for just $10 (sellers pic) f1845.jpg r1845.jpg

Sounds like a heck of a challenge. That's a good start. The fun part is the hunt. Best of luck on your rebuild. Still got some Verdi care around?:D

    Fun idea.

I was once about four or five dates shy of a complete holed 1793-1857 date (not variety) set. No 1793, 1795, 1799, or 1804, of course. Most of the holeys were pleasingly inexpensive. I had the set sewed in ordered rows on the back side of my onetime "Holey Coin Vest" (seen in my present avatar pic). Before I sewed them onto the vest, I briefly had 'em pinned onto a cork bulletin board, which was a fun way to display a set of holed coins.

Wow, that sounds like a really fun project. How many coins in total is that?

will end up about 55-60... there are some dates you just can't get for $20 no matter how much you hunt... hell took me 2 years just to find an 1857 under 150 nevermind 20. but.. the fun is in the hunt and it's actualy surpriseing how many fairly nice cents you can find in that range.

You beat me to it. Those $20 (or less) LCs are gonna need some Verdi-Care TLC. Great stuff.

I know of the Holey Coin Vest, Rob, but have only seen it in your cropped avatar, and never in its full splendor. Any pics?

There are old pix buried somewhere in my eleventy-five gazillion Photobucket images (all untagged and filenames forgotten, naturally), and Photobucket seems to be down for maintenance at the moment anyway, but maybe when you click the link to this thread on the FORVM boards, you can see the pictures. They ain't working for me right at this moment.

    I'm shocked! They're usually so reliable. :D

Not much at that link, by the way, other than empty rectangles that say "photo not found."

Hmm. I think maybe my old original pix of all the holey garment ensemble might be gone. Bummer. :(

They were taken two hard-drive crashes ago, and two Collectors Universe platform transitions ago. I might have them buried in some flash drive somewhere.

I will keep my eyes open for you, though I don't do as much with US material nowadays. Though when I do do anything with US coins, I like old 19th century type material like this. Prefer 'em without problems, though the holeys were fun when I did those. (If stuff is cheap enough, it always finds a home, right?)

I have a holed 1797 NC-5. It has two holes in fact.

It's the only coin I ever won from Heritage, though I've bid on a hundred. Certainly not a $20 coin, but I have a 1797 S-142 with a hole that comes close.

I quite like that 1846, for a coin in the $20-ish budget range.

Just a few holeys, covering the four 19th century types.
