I purchased this coin from Monnaies Serge Huard Coins in 1987

    It was minted in 1985

France 1985 100 Francs "Germinal" Pure Platinum Piefort Proof Coin

It is 2 ounces in platinum

There were only 15 of the coins ever made

Only 5 were sold outside of France

This is the only one sold in the USA

any ideas of how much it is worth.

    I paid $2,950 USD in 1987

Welcome to the forum!!! Could you possibly provide pictures of the coin? We could give much more accurate opinions that way.

According to the Schön catalog, the coin has a value (when buying) of €2500 - that would be about $3400. But with such extremely low mintages, a catalog price can only very vaguely indicate the "value" ...

Christian I would agree with you except for one thing. These coins with the extremely low mintages rarely if ever acquire any significant value over and above bullion content simply because the mintages are so low. With numbers that low there is no way to develop a market for such coins. Simply put there are not enough of them to go around so there is very little if any collector interest and as a result no increasing values.

I used to own several coins like this with mintage numbers under 50 - in every case I purchased them for just over bullion value.
