It was a spectacular outing :smug:

    Hello everyone,
Today I did a 7-hour Metal Detecting hunt at Brooklyn's Prospect Park.
And it was a joyful experience!

Why? Because after 14 years of searching for one of my biggest bucket list coins I finally found it :woot:

Paddy... You always seem to find more than your fair share of 1940's era Merc dimes in those parks. I always read stories when I look at my old coins and each time I see you post a handful of 1940's Mercs I always think of fellows coming home from war and relaxing in the park with their families with the hell of war in the rearview mirror.... Yeah, my mind wonders.

New York was still a pirate stronghold and had a big Spanish influence during the early colonies.silk, cotton and spices e.t.c were widely traded as Spanish currency was dominant during early America even though we had our own mint.It is indeed a half reale and not in bad shape-full date, nice merc spill as well.

Awesome find Ed. Perhaps it was lost by someone attending the first inauguration of President Washington.

Yes. I'm feeling the aches this morning. Any hunt after 4 hours will give you sore muscles the next day! But it is always worth it!

Right before I detected the Reale I was trying to decide if I should go home or try another spot. I had an Empanada de carne de res con papa y zanahoria, that gave me a boost! ;)

Yes. I know a father and daughter known as the Digging Duo who have found several in Prospect Park over the years. We always joke that there are no more Reales to find because the daughter Emma finds them all :wideyed:
    I found one they missed!

Another friend of mine has found 3 different Reales in Pelham Park in the Bronx!

Yes. I actually cried with this one. It's up there with my other top find days which include a 1853 Seated Half, 1907 Barber Half, Flying eagle Cent, 1600's King George Copper, and my recent 13 Silver find day!
