    A legitimate what? Error? o_O
No way. It is a legitimate counterstamp of some sort. An etching for a promotion maybe done by a car dealer.. no extra value :yack:

Why would the mint do that?

It looks like a lightly applied counterstamp. I've never seen this one before, but there are many, many examples of coins stamped with the Ford logo. These do bring a small premium, but this one, unfortunately, doesn't.

It didn't. Counterstamps/Countermarks are applied after the coin leaves the mint, often for advertising purposes. Early on they advertised local stores.

He asked (not the OP, a reader), I answered... if it bothers you, move on.

Yes, I did ask. Did you notice what post I quoted? I was speaking to the OPs question.

Through extensive study, I've come to the conclusion that you cannot ask a rhetorical question on the internet without someone answering it. Just can't be done.

I'd certainly like it more than the earlier-mentioned Ford versions, but I'd forget I had it and would end up spending or losing it. So goes life, sometimes... ;)

As auto repair is my business, I have nightmares about Mercedes.

I live by one simple rule: never own a vehicle built by a company from a country that has lost a world war.

You see, I didn't have to fix it.... and I'm guessing you're a Lada fan? ;)

Lada? Gross. Are they even still around lol? And no, I dont like Mini either. Honestly, most mechanics hate every kind of car. Except good ole American Muscle of course. There is a certain level of frustration when it comes to working on cars. Frustration that only a mechanic can know. I remember the days when I used to like BMW and Audi. Those days are long gone.

So moral of the story, if you want to continue loving Mercedes, never ever work on it yourself or youll want to trade it in for a nice easy bicycle lol.
