Can anyone tell me the exact date the Calif SQ is being released? Is there a listing of sequence for the remaining State Quarters? Thanks, BWJR
California is scheduled to be the first quarter released in 2005. Until last year when the Michigan release was delayed to coinside with the states addmission date (Jan 26th), all the Januarny coins have been released the first week of January. Mostly January 2nd. Anyone hear of any delay in the California release?
Actually, I just got the new issue of Coinage Magazine today in the mail and it says the California quarter will start cicrulating this winter. David
They are being issued in the order the states were admitted to the Union. The remaining schedule: 2005: California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas, West Virginia 2006: Nevada, Nebraska, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota 2007: Montana, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah 2008: Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii And perhaps we can add 2009: Puerto Rico, District of Columbia, Guam, Virgin Islands, and/or anyplace else some crazy congressman thinks of.
Statehood Quarters ND, Are you suggesting that the Statehood Quarters were not a good idea, or is it how the mint packaged the deal to increase their revenue and make a fortune? Or is it what we did as collectors and speculators in hoarding this unique series. Which is it???????/ BWJR
I wish we could go back to other things on coinage other than presidents. Anybody else agree or disagree? I'd really like to see liberties make a comback. Those were such beautful coins back in the day. David
The point I was trying to make is that there have been rumblings from some of the geniuses we elect that the series should be extended to include territories, etc., and if they are successful it would happen in '09.
I have mixed feelings about the state quarter program. It's a neat concept but I think it's too long of a commemorative run. David
Many people agree with you on that. I don't, I think we need more circulated commemoratives, long running programs guarentee that. I like seeing variety in circulated coinage.
Having tried repeatedly to work with these "geniuses" over and over again, it never ceases to amaze me with what they come up with. A successful program is overlooked, and unappreciated. I was referring to the fact that we WILL end up honoring territories within our STATEHOOD quarter progam. The legislators in DC are really pushing this idea. However, they seem to have no clue that Washington DC is not, nor has ever been a State admitted to the union.
Why don't they make "Territory" Quarter Series and keep it separate from the "Statehood" Series? Seems more logical to me... David
Here is a link to the law regarding the issue of the Statehood quarters. It is a pdf file. Looks like a cut and paste link, sorry. http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi...=105_cong_public_laws&docid=f:publ124.105.pdf
Here is an easier link from the US Mint http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/50sq_program/index.cfm?action=us1claw
Here is the line that will end up keeping Washington on the quarter forever. Remember that you heard it hear first. TRANSITION PROVISION. Notwithstanding subparagraph (A), the Secretary may continue to mint and issue quarter dollars in 1999 which bear the design in effect before the redesign required under this subsection and an inscription of the year 1998 as required to ensure a smooth transition into the 10-year program under this subsection
