2007 COIN OF THE YEAR AWARDS Well, after two rounds of voting by an international judging panel, the results are in. Three U.S. coins took top honors in their respective categories! Before I reveal those coins here's some info about the COTY Awards. This yearly awards program is sponsored by Krause Publication's World Coin News, There are ten categories. The first COTY Awards was held in 1984. To be fair to all the world's mints, a two year delay was put into place. So the award program in 1984 was for 1982 minted coins. This year's considerations are coins minted in 2005. (not dated 2005, but struck in 2005). Before I reveal the ten winners here in 2007, guess which U.S. coin won first place in 1984. Hint: it's a commemorative coin Here it is compliments of: World Coin Gallery: http://worldcoingallery.com/countries/coin.php?image=img4/US-50c82&desc=U.S.A.%20Half%20Dollar%20km208%20(1982)%20George%20Washington Here's 2007's results. Not quite ... that series (issued 2003-2006) consisted of four €10 silver coins and one €100 gold coin, and while the sides with the eagle are pretty much the same, the other side varies from issue to issue. Here is a (small) picture of the gold coin: http://www.pressedienst-numismatik.de/images/stories/startseite_2005/wm_goldeuro_start.jpg Here is a picture of that one. There were three issues (same design) as far as I know; 1 and 2 NIS silver and 10 NIS gold. http://www.isragift.co.il/files/images/products/71626222.jpg Yes, definitely. :thumb: I will usually find coins that, in my opinion, should have made it instead of the final winners, hehe. But it's still interesting to learn about interesting new (or relatively new) issues! Christian
