I am evaluating a coin collection for a friend and most of it is american but there is a small bit of foreign. One being this set. Could someone ballpark value of it? Also, what's the best Avenue to sell something like this? Dates are: 1871, 1872, 1874, 1880, 1882, 1883, 1886, 1888, 1890, 1891, 1892, 1893, 1896, 1898, 1899, 1900, 1901, 1902, 1902 H, 1903 H, 1905-1914, 1916-1920. Then the regular size nickels, I don't think any of them are uncommon and there isn't the 1925.
I honestly don't think any of us should or could ball park a figure. There are very nice coins (silver) in this set that need to be individually graded before anyone could tell you this truthfully. Some of these can be quite pricey in higher grades. If you can manage some time with these, it would be in your best interest to carefully remove, photograph and post the earlier ones back here. Start with the earliest and up to the steel issues, they also look high grade. After that it's not worth the effort.
As said above, some of the early Vickies have some value once above F or VF. You would need to give folks an idea of what the grades are. If you are a member of the coin community family (CCF) then you should ask the same question there, as they have 4 separate Canadian discussion forums. Someone will chime in if you can tell the grades. There's also a B&S section.
What other forum are you talking about? I'll post pics in 4's and maybe that will help you guys give me an idea? I can't grade foreign stuff
I am not too familiar with Canadian cents, but I will be more than happy to give you at least a dollar for it =) Other people on the forum will know more, about the subject =)
Here is the CCF site that I mentioned: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/ It will help you with grading and there will be 5 cent folks to help you out. From what I can see from the pics, you have few coins that retail for more than $20, with most being around the 10 or less retail. Since you can normally buy silvers for 50% or so of retail in your grading conditions, so you won't get rich. Id sell them as a lot on Ebay, with the silvers separate from the nickel. Here is a site that covers grading and has pricing as well for Canadian coinage: http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins.php There are also discussion boards there by denomination.
