Good morning CT! I just got the results of an 8 coin submission, most of which were CWTs from my collection. I'm going to do a few GTG threads over the next week or so, and I thought I'd start with this one, a fairly tricky CWT to grade. Fuld 127/401a Lincoln/Our Union Have at it!
This is a strike issue, not a "wear" issue. From PCGS, I'd guess a grade of MS62 or MS63. Clearly BN, not RB or RD.
Bingo! PCGS gave this one an MS62BN. This type, and really the Our Union die, is well known for downright terrible strike. You pair it with another central mass, like Lincoln's bust, and you end up with this. Well done, @brg5658!
I'm curious, is there a reason/rationale for why you chose PCGS over NGC for grading CWTs? I'm not a fan of PCGS for grading exonumia, just wondering what your experiences have been.
I like their imaging, first and foremost. I'm very OCD and much of my non-exonumic collection is in PCGS plastic. I do find them to be a bit more liberal in their grading of CWTs than NGC. If I cross an item, or break it out and resubmit, I usually see a bump.
