more nice coins...i got a rufus match! Mn. Cordius Rufus, silver denarius, Rome, 46 BC Dioscuri, Venus with Cupid at shoulder. 18 mm, 3.6 g here's a rough, but interesting indo-greek type... i really like this one but his just features their caps... the obverse features abe lincoln .....
Thanks all, for posting your beautifull Discourii , many are now on my wishlist, especially Bing's FONTEIUS what a great coin. also like Dionysus his Eucratides coin a lot , I can buy this one , what do you guys think ? current bid is $100
Though i can not find it in the fakes listst I do not get a good feeling with this last coin, and that's not just because of the surfaces. 100 $ may not be much for a coin of this type, but that is also what you get.
They are iconic, if that's not too overused. Like athens owls and man faced bulls. Not to mention roman imperial eagles etc.

Nice coins all! The Roma/Dioscuri on horseback has to be one of my favorite types to ever appear on Roman coins. It was first used during the Second Punic War circa 212 BC when the denarius coinage system was introduced and used well into the 2nd century in the "classic" form with later types like those with the standing dioscuri in my opinion being a sort of throw back to the original. Here are a few of my earlier Dioscuri examples, a denarius, quinarius and sestertius:
