Hey, I scored my first "tortoise" ... I love it!! Yah, I seem to be targeting lil' wee babies lately (they fricken fascinate me) => so here is a pretty cool little coin ... a tortoise and a sweet-leaf CARIA, Idyma. AR Hemiobol 5th century BC Diameter: 8 mm Weight: 0.44 grams Obverse: Land tortoise with segmented shell Reverse: Leaf, pellet Reference: SNG Ashmolean 228; SNG Kayhan 1627 = CNG 72, lot 803; Klein 522 Other: 11h … sweet toning, slightly granular, reverse off center. Very rare I "love" this new coin ..... I'm pumped on coining once again!! => cha-ching .... I now have myself a "tortoise" .... *check*
Steve once bought a minuscule tortoise Then posted to CoinTalk to court us He cried out online, “My God there’s no rhyme!" And TIF said “No turtle with thwart us!" Interesting pickup, coinbro!
Cool coin. I was interested until I saw how small it was. I know it's my failing but I have a hard time spending significant money on coins that are smaller than a gram.
Funny => that's why I was interested in it ... I'm always amazed by the artist's ability to create such a mini wonder!! Oh, and even more surprised that it's managed to survive for 2400 years!! ... please don't get interested in these small gems (there is already way too much competition, H8er)
Please go ahead and post any tortoise examples ... ummm, or leaf examples => oh, or any examples that are teeny-weeny
Hmmm, I don't have any other tortoise examples ... => Hey, but how 'bout a few other cool AR examples from Caria? Caria, Mylasa, AR Obol 400-300 BC Lion & Scorpion (incuse square) Caria, Kindya, AR Tetrobol 510-480 BC Head of Ketos Sea Monster & Pattern (incuse square) Satraps of Caria, Pixodaros, AR Trihemiobol 341-335 BC Apollo head & Starlike pattern
Oh, and here is my extremely humble "sea turtle" ... => it's kinda like a comfy cousin of my new OP Land Tortoise ... they're roughly the same age, so hopefully they'll be awesome pals
Hmmm... no leaf, no tortoise; but I DO have "teeny-weeny"! Nice Han Xing! The reign title translates directly into "Han Rising," which meant that Li Show was trying to form a new Han Dynasty. I still need one of those, though I have not yet found a nice one in my budget. If/when I can afford to regularly spend $100-200 on a coin, then it would be a more-viable option. Also, this was not the first instance of a reign title on a coin. That award goes to the Tai Ping Bai Qian cast ca 256/7 AD, whose inscription means "One Hundred [cash] of Tai Ping."
(what rhymes with tortoise?) is an ancient question that when answered will reveal the secrets of the universe orrrrr how about porpoise?
