Again, this year's budget-coins are certainly not screaming "AJ-AJ-AJ" ... However, I loved this sweet coin when I first saw it so I fired-out an initial bid ($45) => seriously, $45 for this delicious lil' 8 mm silver trihemiobol => yes please!! This sweetie has great toning and for an 8 mm coin, this example has both, a great obverse bust of Apollo and also a cool reverse showing an intricate trident within a patterned border (hey dudes, this is an 8 mm canvas!!) => $45 .... chicken dinna!! IONIA, Magnesia ad Maeandrum AR Trihemiobol Circa 400-350 BC Diameter: 8 mm Weight: 0.84 grams Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena right Reverse: Trident head within circular maeander pattern Reference: SNG Kayhan 404–7 Other: 2h … sweet toning From the estate of Thomas Bentley Cederlind => gawd, that's a 20 mm portrait on an 8 mm coin!! (I love it)
Nice coin stevex6, good value, it's hard to believe you can get 2400 piece of history for just $45 bucks.
There were a few bargains at todays auction, but overall it was quite strong. I was outbid on everything! I had thought the election grumblings would hold some back. After all, stock markets around the world have been down (as they are always childish and emotional to just about anything), but of course all will go back up. Now, there are some truly wonderful items in the current auction, and I can only hope everyone else will not see them!
Now this one caught my eye as well... I would've been happy to have welcomed it into my collection. Glad you got it, and for the entrance fee too!
Please feel free to post any of your tridents and/or your cool Athena examples ... Syracuse Zeus & Trident with dolphons
