hi! My Dad found this penny. Not sure if it's die clash or a double strike or what. Any thoughts? Worth grading?
From your pic, it looks like it could be glue. So somone glued two cents togethor and when pulled apart the reverse of the top cent left an imprint in glue on this coin. Can you see if you can get closer pics??
If it were a Double Struck Cent the Reverse side would have evidence of it also. PMD - Post Mint Damage is my analysis.
@Markus1959 I want to share this webpage with you - https://sullivannumismatics.com/coin/1c-1999-lincoln-cent-flip-over-double-strike-ms-64-redbrown
OK - but no explanation how this type of error actually happens - that's what I was getting at - The HOW?
Apparently the Coin that is struck once ejects from the chamber but does not completely come out. Then it lands back into the chamber flipped around and gets struck again.
Go figure them odds!!!! I put my money on the Unicorn showing up to get fed! Although a nail just happened to fall into the dies so who knows!!
