It's time for me to remove the coins from my Dansco 7070 album. I know enough to press the coins down before pulling the slides/lens from the page. Once I free the coins from the page, I can see tiny bits of cardboard dust on the coins. That's my problem. I worry that even a soft brush will hairline the coins. I also worry that canned air will deposit moisture on the coin. I figured air would be great to clean up the album after the coins are out of the way. Not sure of a safe way to clean the slides. Maybe just clean water? I hope to pass the album on to someone that can use it. I'm thinking a quick swish in acetone would remove any dust on the coins before putting them in a fresh holder. Any negative thoughts about using acetone for this? Better options? I could rig up an oilless compressor with filters. I believe the grading services use something like that to remove dust. Please give me your thoughts.
I use something like this since I have one for removing dust from my camera lenses: https://www.amazon.com/Silicone-Cleaning-Instruments-Keyboards-Telescope/dp/B07Y1TKXVK/ Don't overthink it.
Dip the coins in acetone and let them air dry. Acetone is harmless, you can't hurt your coins with it unless you use a Q-tip, they will cause hairlines.
I moved all of my type set coins out of my 7070 and into airtites quite a few years ago. I just used one of those air puffer things (camera lens thingy). The Dansco 7070 is from the early '70s (no small dollar holes, no bicentennial holes, just 1 hole for the Eisenhower $; also no gold page). Wonder what I could get for it.
This is how I do it, for coins, printed photos, slides, and camera lenses: See here at Amazon See here at Amazon
I have always used compressed air. As long as you do short, gentle bursts and hold the can upright, you shouldn't have any problems. I do recommend a quick acetone bath after you've blown it off - I always do this when changing holders just to make sure there are no contaminants.
Sounds like you need a vacuum cleaner but that would suck the coin up. Best wishes on whatever you do.
