I have an 1882-S Morgan Silver Dollar that looks like it has a "S/O" punch error. Thoughts?

So is it just a punch error?

I'd say no. Could you provide a clearer picture of the Mintmark again? Just to see exactly what it is. Might be a damaged mintmark or a die chip possibly.

It's filled. Like a chip, these are so tiny.

Overlooking the obvious to imagine the best, how often do we see that, here?

All the time. The question is how often do we hear things here? o_O

    I believe you're thinking of the O over S.

Also punch error is not a correct term.

When you are talking about mint marks (in this example O over S) the correct term re-punched mint mark or RPM.
For in depth information about RPM's and other varieties and errors I suggest error-ref.com

    Never. Read stuff, yes.

But, I hear you, just not here, only when you use your voice and I am close enough to hear you.

( don't get mad at me. You provided an opportunity here and when I read it, I accepted and appreciated the opportunity to respond here.)

    PS: How was that?

Except in the Ring when Tyson is the opponent.

Punching him would certainly be an error!

Not a mint error at all.

Very nice Millard, and it explains the situation very well.

Thank you very much for the information. I recently inherited a coin collection so I'm just trying to find my way around the neighborhood.
