I had to share this with the forum because this is the first time one of my hobbies helped the other. In addition to collecting coins, I also am a geocacher. Geocaching is a GPS hunting and tracking game. When you locate a cache you can take an item and leave an item....for more info see www.geocaching.com Today, I located a cache and the item I took was a 1 KOnEUKA coin (pronounced "ko-pay-ka" - I think). My sons and I have been putting together a common world coin collection basically from circulation and those "junk bins" we've all seen. This KOnEUKA is a new addition for us! I'm pretty sure its Russia and I have the pronunciation correct. Please let me know if I'm off. Any more info would be helpful.
Yup, sounds like a 1 Kopek coin. Not sure how it's pronounced in Russian (I'm no good w/ the Cyrillic alphabet), but the Anglicized form is 'kopek' (plural: 'kopeks').
It's nice when one thing complements another. That gives us a keener (deeper) sense of accomplishment. Good for you! Clinker
Congradulations on a few fun hobbies. Around here in the Chicago area there are similar linked hobbies. Some criminals steal guns and then rob banks and then have many coins for a collection. SEE, collecting guns and coins
