Picked this coin up at a show this weekend and trying to get an idea as to when it was slabbed. Any info would be helpful Thanks scmedic
I think it's undergraded! Ms65 Imo Perfect example of how these labels tone (beautifully) coins. 1989 Anacs before Amos press purchased the company.I collect and cherish this style holder, if you compare it to later small white holders, it's about a 1/4 inch smaller . Easy to stick in your pocket (and store) as well
Thanks. I thought it was a beautiful coin. Hints of electric blue on both sides. I felt it was a good buy for $80
Oh, you got a steal! Some may disagree, with the full point bump upgrade I gave it. The angle of the image could be hiding/making the chatter harder to see,With only 1 set of photos anyway, but, I like it!!! That label holder is what causes theses beauties, and, that color really adds to the eye appeal imo
Ok first you got to take it to dinner , maybe a movie or play it should be old enough to have a drink by now... Then you can bring it home to your parents or may be meet her parents ..lol Sent from my C6740N using Tapatalk
I had exactly the same thoughts when I read the title "trying to date..." LOL Although I tend to grade a bit stricter than the TPGs today, this sure looks like a MS65 Morgan to me. Strike is obviously great, fields and Liberty's cheek are clean... how's the luster?
Always on the lookout for Morgans that are nice for the grade. Here is one I bought last week in a NGC MS-64 slab
I love those original ANACS slabs. The OFFICIAL ANA GRADE holders were the first generation of slabs from ANACS and were used for only about 1 year during 1989. I will buy those almost anytime I come across them. At the price you paid, it would have been an absolute no brainer instant reflex purchase for me. I would say they are typically undergraded by today's standards and they just look so damn nice in those small unobtrusive holders. Not to mention the very attractive toning that develops in those holders. Nice job.
It likely didn't get a PLUS or a STAR designation because it's a common year... what a shame, it's an outstanding coin with great eye appeal!
I tried to date an older ANACS slab once. Didn't work out, so I ended up marrying a PCGS Secure slab closer to my age...
Very Nice coin. I have been collecting these ANA/ANACS first gen holders (1989) for a long time now. really like how the coin tones with this label. Label change a little when Amos Press bought ANACS, The under printing changed to green ANACS and the serial number change to all numbers and then the bar code was added. Near the end of this article on ANACS Photo Certs there are some pictures of the different early slabs. https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&...zYW1wbGVzbGFiYm9va3xneDo3ZDlkODA2YjJlZmVhODhk Took me awhile to find this thread on Small ANACS white holders. It was ATS and it has many of the different labels type ANACS has used over the years. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8066774&fpart=1
