    Another recent pick-up.

Seated coins are not my main focus, and this one is also in fairly low grade. However, I could not leave it behind specially at the price the dealer was asking, and with nice, original toning to boot. Many Seated Dollars have been at least cleaned, if not worse. This one seems fully original.

Will it make VG8? only a few letters on the shield are visible.

Looks like some scratches on the reverse at 10 & 11 o clock. Still a nice coin & one of my favorite u.s. series.

Nice VG. Original. It's SO hard to find these in problem-free. This series was abused in the marketplace back in the day.

Nice coin. IMO VG-10. Although this is not one of the scarce dates, Randy Campbell has been recommending Seated dollars for investment over the years during his FUN show lectures.

Any problem free Seated dollar is a welcome coin. Judging by current listings, the clean-a-coin crowd had a field day with these in years gone by. Pity.

    You have a nice one.

Fully agree regarding the cleaning. Finding original, untouched Seated Dollars is a challenge. I have a few of these in my collection, and all save 2 have at least been dipped.

My one and only, an 1842, had an old cleaning, and has since retoned but you can still see some hairlines on it. I love this series, I just wish I could afford more of them.

Judging by seated slabs I see, looks like a solid VG by today's standards.

Very nice looking Dollar. I'd give it a solid VG grade as well.

High end VG IMO, very nice. IT is really tough to find these nice in VF and below; in XF and higher they abound. I like the circ. cameo look, and the rims are in great shape for a well circulated example, with very few marks on the surfaces. Nice find, Eduard! I'm looking for a decent VF,myself, which would about finish my 1840's set.

Quite agreed; the reverse presents every appearance of Fine and VG-10 would be the obverse-limited grade. I suspect the scratches would be adjudicated appropriate for the grade level, and not cause a Details judgement.

A solid citizen which I'd probably (pending in-hand inspection) be happy to acquire for US$200, considering that number a good deal.

Don't the nicks in the rim make it details?

Thanks, all. I paid a fair bit less than $200 and at that price it would have been negligent not to buy it. These seated dollars are impressive to look at and to hold.

Just dollars or the Seated coinage in general?

I could sit and listen to Randy for hours. Actually I have. What a great teacher. He would also make a great football coach.
The OP coin is really nice. I would have bought it.

Nice. What I like about the Seated coins is that they wear down fairly evenly so you have details down into VG and even G. Unlike some, say Barbers that just become a big ugly flat head.

One could accurately characterize this whole transaction as "impressive." Well-bought, sir. :)

Almost certainly not, at this grade. In AU, probably. Either way, Eduard is not exactly upside-down on the coin. :)

Where do you meet Randy to listen to his talks on Seated Dollars?
