Not a Date Set. Not a Type Set. Not a Metal Composition Set. Not a coin Finish Set. Not a set that has any theme other than Kennedy Half Dollars I really like for whatever reason. This mini set / mini collection is what is biding my time between purchases for my Type Set Box-of-100. Kennedy Half Dollars are a design I keep wandering back to, decade after decade. I just really love the layout of the coin, both sides. To me, it's the epitome of modern US coin design, in other words, its looks like proper money to me, as opposed to silly looking, busy looking, flat looking, recent designs coming out of the US mint. So far, this is what I have:
Very nice collection. Kennedy halves are great coins. I have a complete set but these two are my favorites:
It is a special Matte Proof coin. Sorta an SMS coin, so they use the "SP" (specimen) designation. It doesn't really fit into any one catergory. I actually learned yesterday that PCGS considers its a Type 1 coin (same as the normal 1964 90% Silver issue). For many years, I considered this coins its own "Type", hence I have it that way in my Box-of-100 Type set. There are silver proofs for many years, and there are two years of SMS Type 1 coins, 1964 and 1998. See here at PCGS. It was issued as part of the Commemorative 1998 Kennedy Collectors Set.
Great looking Kennedy's. I always like them too. You forgot to post pics of your 2014-W 3/4 oz one ... my favorite
I'm starting to put a set together myself. Have most of the early years but will need to look for the later coins. Did get the 2014 W 3/4 oz.
