What grade is my 1806 Soho Farthing George III?

Discussion in 'World Coins' started by Coinismatics2000, Sep 21, 2024.

  1. Hi All,

These pictures are taken under 10x and 3x magnification.
It was listed as EF but I am curious to see the wider opinion on that grade.

Any stories, information, knowledge feel free to share!

    Thanks

In the UK, I think this would probably be regarded as EF

Not sure I would quite go EF on that one - there is a little too much wear on the hight points, and there appears to be some long mark/scratch under Britannia's arm. Maybe VF+ on UK scale. (I don't do the US scale!)
Here is my best, which I think is a little better and which I would give EF, but only just:

Apologies - I have just re-read the OP and realised it was a farthing whilst the one I have posted is a halfpenny. My grading opinion still stands.

  5. Thanks for the thoughts and opinions. I must agree with you... EF seems about right but i want sure if i was missing anything. Is the marking under Brittanias arm actually from the die? not 100% but the mark on my Farthing is very raised.

Your half penny is a beauty... still has some lustre in places!

    Isn't that a huge fingerprint?!

It's a smaller coin than that photo, and yes it looks like a fingerprint,
which they claim doesn't affect the grade, but it's not desirable to a lot of people.
I can't tell from the photo, it doesn't appear cleaned and from 1806 it seems to be in excellent condition. Low AU for me.

  8. yes it must be a fingerpint... not sure what else could leave that pattern. Its solidly apart of the coin too!

Yeah, I was under the impression that a coin with a fingerprint on it automatically goes in a body bag! Guess I learned something new! :D
