 IMO, there is too much PMD being thrown around all over CT threads. If we wish to be technical than ANYTHING that happens to a coin after it is struck is PMD. :D That includes: ejection doubling, bag marks, scratches, glue residue, corrosion, etc.

Thankfully, we've given specific names to many of them. :bookworm: The "key" to ID this mark is the coin's obverse. The area under the "punch mark" (and that is what it is), is flat. As to the punch itself, the first thing I noticed is it looks like an eagle's head (my imagination?). There is absolutely no evidence indicating the "mark" was scooped out and the "flat" obverse proves it is not. Hope this helps.

PS Don't sell the coin until you ID the mark. Start with "Eagle countermark." It may be a contemporary jeweler's mark.

Need some help, not sure how I should clasify it...D/S or DD or what? Your suggestions are highly appreciated. Thanks. Penny DD 1989.jpeg

Wow Seattlite, sorry if you are offended for my post, it was not my intention of hijacking the threads and thanks for your response "Zinc rot" lol.

What do you expect? You dumped a Cent into a thread about a Morgan. There are plenty of fora where jacking a thread like that would receive a far less pleasant response than Seattlite's. :)

And he's right about the cause. It's plainly not the shape of the original mint mark, it's a Zlincoln, this sort of "bubble doubling" is known to be common on mint marks, and the conclusion is fairly easy.

    My apologies, @heavycam.monstervam.

I found my response to not only be accurate but kind considering you are not a completely brand new member and you hijacked a thread. I believe I even used the word please... I'm concerned by your response about me being offended, it is not me who should be offended, but the OP whose thread you hijacked to ask about your coin that shows Zinc rot.

THIS: "I'm concerned by your response about me being offended."

GET OVER IT!! The poster apologized VERY NICELY (even included a LOL). Three hours later one member piles on with NOTHING TO ADD, and now it seems a member decides he is being insulted.

I'll tell you what you all should be concerned about IMO. This weekend on Coin Talk was a BIG FAT ZERO of anything interesting except for the ancients forum and a post about Trade dollar varieties. Seems like everyone is on vacation! What's up?:bored:

Maybe it's because the mods seem to be on a hissy tear lately? Quite frankly I'm starting to get fed up with it. Jim deleted a post of mine and gave a warning responding to and no worse than a post he decided to leave untouched. I messaged him about this and he didn't even respond. Doug I get, he rules with an iron fist of sorts but mostly when things get out of hand however Jim should never have been offered the job imo. Christian and USS seem to have the right balance that it takes to effectively do the job. Doug too unless things get out of hand but that's understandable. Jim has, and subvertly pushes, his own agenda and relishes in the minuscule power he has over a bunch of nameless avatars. I say we start a petition and send it to Peter

Sorry for the thread hijack op. Carry on guys :)

I think you missed the point. He was focused on me being offended (which I wasn't, for the record) but he was apologizing to the wrong person. He should have apologized to the OP for hijacking his thread. How do people not understand that they are being rude when they jump in and hijack a thread with their own posts? I wasn't offended, I was embarrassed for him.

And I'm not sure how I should've actually read his response, but let me tell you how it came across to me:
Wow Seattlite (I can't believe you even said what you did) sorry (I'm not sorry) you are offended (because I think you get easily offended over stupid things) it was not my intention of hijacking the threads and thanks (but not really) for your response "Zinc rot" (stupid answer) lol (because I was being sarcastic the entire time and I'm laughing at you and this situation instead of recognizing that I was being rude to the OP).

Read it how you like that he was being nice, or read it how I did. Honestly I don't care. Either way, I feel I was very polite with him and that you are fueling a fire that has already died. My apologies to the OP for responding and beating the poor dead horse, but I wasn't offended until @Insider piped in unnecessarily.

 Is this some kind of boring code word that has NOTING TO DO with coins? :spitoutdummy: What's a dillhole?

Absolutely true; however, he OP didn't seem to mind as he said NOTHING until the apology and the pile on .

Wow, is that a poster paragraph for a chapter in a psych book on a certain self characteristic.

Well Eveyrthing seemed over until SD "piped in unnecessarily."

As I said, dull, dull, dull and NO COIN TALK.

Let's start a big debate on this thread then, oh wait, you just did.
Whaddya mean pile on? I agreed with what the guy was saying, because I thought the thread was dead 3 days ago. Until YOU arrived, with a know-it-all attitude full of hot air. Someone got their EZ bunch panties on today?? o_OHmmmm?;)
