As some of you know, I have a big Mexican collection. Recently browsing eBay I saw a lot of about 100 coins, mostly BU. I was able to buy it for $15 shipped. There were 25 different coins in the lot, with the others being duplicates, but I was really impressed by the quality. I already had all of these coins but many will be upgrades for my collection. Here are a few of the prettiest ones.
These were the coins that first got me interested in Mexican coins. I've never visited myself but I'd love to go sometime.
that was a very hard climb for me then as I remember. the stairs were straight up and down. then I always thought I was gonna fall. lol I would not go there now it is NOT safe.
That would make for an interesting thread. "Post a coin where the image on it is a place you've visited."
here's 1 I got for $35 maybe 2 years ago in Vegas coin show... I can not for the life of me find the reverse pics. or the other 1 40 centavos coin I have.
XF for sure, but it could go AU depending on the obverse. Hard to tell from a scan but I think there is some luster showing. I always thought the star should be the obverse but get conflicting data. Some list the shield as the obverse. Very nice coin. Don't you wish it was a 1916?
Here are my two most notable pickups from the Whitman Expo today: Austria 2 Gulden-Florin 1859B NGC MS63 KM-2230 AR 0.900 24.69g 36mm This is a Hungarian coin minted during the Austrian occupation period following Hungary's loss in the War of Independence. From 1851-1867, Hungary's mints struck Austrian types with mint marks B, E, and G. These Hungarian issues are extremely scarce compared to Vienna strikes of the same types. The 2 Gulden-Florin denomination was only struck in Hungary for one year and is a scarce issue with unknown mintage numbers. This coin has amazing cartwheel luster and a proof-like cameo reverse. Austria 1898 Signvm Memoriae Medal AE Uniface Die Splash This is a (bronze?) uniface die splash of the 1898 Signvm Memoriae Medal issued to commemorate the Franz Joseph I 50th anniversary of reign jubilee (1848-1898).
Ok. These are most recent, as in I dug them up an hour ago. I medal detect a little and live in Spain for now so I come across some pretty old stuff sometimes. Not sure what these are yet and not real sure of best way to (hate to use the word) "clean them" to make them identifiable. I think the mint luster is fading on them.
Recently bought a lot of coins, so far the most valuable one seems to be this 1962 2 Drachma. That was a bit of a surprise, I was not aware that any modern Greeks coins had any value. There was a 10, 5, 2, 1 Drachmas and a 20 and 10 Lepta all in great condition. In the same lot were 20-1958 Australia Perth Mint Pennys all in BU condition some with color and/or wood grain toning.
