I notice other forums in Cointalk already have a Secret Santa thread. Are we going to have one here? Who's in charge of it?
Well since you bring it up, why not take the reins Sallent? I'd partake & maybe help. I'm not up to speed on tech. I'm fairly old school in most things. Kirkuleez is doing the coin chat forum & he seems to be having difficulty keeping up. I know he hasn't returned my PM.
Well, I have a sweet little medieval silver coin to send out for secret Santa, if you guys decide to have it. I bought it back in August and I've been keeping it a secret all along, because I want it to be a surprise for whomever receives it. Pair me with a relatively young and new person, as they are the type that may appreciate a silver coin more than anyone else. Oh, whomever my secret Santa is, I also appreciate silver. Even the cheap and common variety (ie. Gordian III, Philip II, etc). Just saying. You don't have to get me silver...but I'm just saying.
Who ever handles the paperwork and such should use rules such as his. As he mentioned, there have been possible scammers, complainers as if they 'bought' something rather than exchange gifts, and just plain cheats, and they expect mods to solve it. So he evolved his set of rules, and last year eliminated most problems. Be sure to establish rules on how and when delivery will be done. Have Fun, Jim
Hi boys, Not wanting to suggest what to do, but last year I received ancient coins in the CT Secrect Santa thread : Honestly....I loved them, they challenged me, I had fun with them, and they were completely out of my normal wheelhouse; my SS made me think; you guys think you will disappoint us, you won't. Regardless of what you all decide to do, you are 'unique' and we all love your contributions. You think - oh all i have is 'ancients' - you're just wrong man...
That's a very sweet gesture, Sallent (sounds like you're fishin' for your first sweet bronze coin, eh?) => however, JA has done it for a while (Santa may want to keep doing his annual chore?) ... plus, he already knows most of our mailing addresses (and Honest John always does a great job!) You should probably send a PM and see if he's willing to lend his sleigh to a lawyer!! Regardless, I am "not" entering this year ... sorry gang, but I find it too stressful/sad to give away one of my coins (my coins are a bit like family pets => I love 'em all and get rattled when I even think of giving one of them away) However => I love Christmas and giving, so I hope all of you have a great Secret-Santa thread, no matter who ends-up dishing-out orders to Rudolph and the rest of the reindeer gang!! Cheers and Ho-Ho-Ho
Count me in as well for this year! Come on Steve, you know you want to be good and generous again like last year
Same here but different reasons. I plan to send JA some coins for holiday giveaway (assuming he coordinates the effort this year) but don't want to participate in the formal exchange.
One can buy an ancient with the sole purpose of giving it away. I just looked on eBay and I see several that I may buy to give away. I'm planning on joining this year.
Just read through last year's Secret Santa thread. I am so totally in! And I know exactly what to give.
So far we have Bing, Smojo, ValiantKnight, Sallent, TypeCoin971793, as entrants for Secret Santa. If @John Anthony wants to do it, I'm sure he won't mind if we gather some of the names for him and make his job a little easier, and if he doesn't want to do it, I vote @Bing for the position. He is experienced and devoted to this forum.
I'm with you. I've already got a few coins picked it just depends who I get. I've got Ancients & U.S moderns covered.
I PM'd JA. He said he was going to get a thread going sometime this weekend. Tieing up some loose ends first. I'm just not the waiting around type impatient as some would say, lol. I wasn't a ct member at this time last year & I do love to give. It brings peace to troubled times.
Hey folks, thread posted. I had to get the last auction mailing and Baltimore out of the way. PM away.
Of course I will participate again, it was so much of a fun thing last year (I already sent JA a PM to apply) C'mon @stevex6, you know your Santa gift has found a good home, and you know you can see it any time you want. Good food, good wine, beer and whisky, fun and coining would be provided too Q
