A while back, the founder of PCGS made an offer of $10,000 to anyone who could show him a genuine 1964 peace dollar in private to ensure their safety. No one has took him up on his offer.

If I owned the '64 Peace I canna imagine showing it outside of a very tight assemblage of very trusted confidents - certainly not PCGS.

I would, even for $100 just so Hall would see something he could not buy. ;)

However, I'll bet he could make me an offer I would take though, then I'd tell Secret Service he had it.:D

And they probably wouldn't do anything about it. They have never made a move to recover the Toven 1974 aluminum cent and that has been through two TPG's and publicized. As long as it isn't publicly auctioned I doubt they would do anything.

Well, how would one go about finding a potential buyer for a 1974-D outside of public auction. Hypothetically...

Overseas. Out of US jurisdiction. Otherwise, you will lose it.

That's certainly very nice, sir, but I don't believe the point of this thread is to discuss copies.

Agreed. $10k may seem like a nice freebie windfall, but not when taking it has the potential to cost much, much more in loses.

If you are the owner of the '64 Peace I am sure your not too flipping concerned about $10K - especially given the risk of going public with the coin.

If you own this dollar you have gone to great lengths to acquire it and even more great lengths to keep it. $10,000 isn't a drop in the bucket.

If anyone has read about the stolen art market it's mind boggling. Priceless paintings that have fallen "off the grid" and proudly hang on the wall in a personal collection, never to be sold or auctioned (because it was sold on the black market). Do you think these folks would reveal their painting for $10,000? Nope! Same story here.

Does NGC offer any on-site certification just across the border in Mexico?
