1977 D dime weight : 2.27 I'm learning , so I'm not sure of all the terms i should use in description, sorry. Obverse - the head looks like shatter glass. A ring from the reverse can be seen around the head. Reverse- - crack across from the word united. Off center looking ring that encases the torch area. Above the word dime ,it looks raised but jumbled Is this worth getting appraised? Where could I post it for sale if I do ?
The ‘77 could be from a defective/shattered die, but not worth very much, if anything, in that advanced worn condition. Everything else looks to be PMD. …imo…Spark
Well, based on the title of the post, it appears you already identified it as an error, so I would say it's an error in judgement. (Something happened to it since it left the Mint; but it's still worth 10 cents.)
Try posting full image.The 1st one could be a cracked planchet. (Or damage.) The second one is damage. The 3 reverse photos are damage.
"Error in judgement". Gheese! There has to be a community somewhere that can understand people seek help to learn and they can get it without people trying to degrade. Looks as though the reviews for this community were right on the money ( no pun intended) and I shouldn't have second guessed it. Maybe you should think back to your start in coins , did you really have all the answers back then? Ridiculous! I have read the many reviews where people were told one thing here only to find out they got false info. I thought , man there is no way a coin community can be that heartless or maybe even spiteful about what others have so much so they would try to convince them they have nothing simply because they don't want someone else to do well. I guess we should really start paying attention to reviews a lil better
There are honest opinions and the "heartless" or "spiteful" you think you see is in your own inflection, (from reading the post) and imagination. I have been here for many years and I have never once found any intentional false information. One problem is new collectors come all the time with coins they think are errors and it is usually post mint damage. And when they don't get the confirmation they were seeking they are disappointed and some times leave with an acid tongue about the site. As I said the first coin 1977-D dime could be an error, it might be a cracked planchet.
@Dreamin_Sqaw, it's quite simple really, you didn't ask if it was an error, you posted that it already was an error & asked what kind it was! It's not, & you need to make better judgements before you state something as fact, that's all. Sorry your feelings got hurt!
If you're new to this I wouldn't start out by looking for "errors." It takes a ton of knowledge and experience to be able to recognize actual errors instead of parking lot damage. The "error in judgement" comment was unnecessary, but your reaction to it is also pretty common on forums. Too many people see all the "get rich from pocket change" nonsense, jump straight to thinking it's easy to make money from "errors", and then their hopes get dashed. It's a fun hobby but very few people get rich off of it, especially not from finding stuff in their change. That said, your first coin might be from a shattered die, so try to take a better picture of it (and not an image of your computer screen).
Don't post photos of your microscope, take the time to download the image and post that - otherwise whatever detail is present is lost in the double pixelization. Far too many of the people you are asking for help simply ignore posts like this. Help us to help you.
