The front of any coin is called the Obverse. The back is called the Reverse.
Your Nickel is great. The Obverse looks like it has a raised upset rim. Could be a struck through. I will get back to you with my similiar error.

Yes it's a Struck Through Capped Die - This is from my collection

Hard to say for sure, could be post mint damage but I think it's more likely a strike through, possibly as suggested through cloth. Better pictures of the surface on the obverse would help.

We will never know because he never bothered to weigh the coin, take better photos, or provide measurements. I'm going to go ahead and unwatch this thread because it is time for it to die since all he wants to do is argue with very knowledgeable folks but not provide any basis for his line of thinking...

There are two major and game-changing differences between your coin and the original one posted in this thread. First, yours has a rim on the "blank" side, as it should. Second, yours has detail - texture - on that side. One possible explanation is being struck thru a Capped Die, a die to which a previously-struck coin has stuck, and it's been hammered against so many other new planchets since that details of the die to which it's stuck (the obverse, in almost all cases) are imparted to the coins its' striking.

The other explanation is a grease fill or strike through some foreign thing of such extent that only this much detail was available to strike into the "obverse" of your coin. I tend to agree with paddyman98 and believe this the less-likely reason for your coin.

Either way, your coin is significantly different that the first coin in this thread, and you most certainly have something pretty interesting there. :)

Yes it could be, seeing the surface would be a big help, if it's through cloth the surface should look somewhat like the pattern of the cloth. If a capped die it would be smoother.

Happily accepted, at least at this end. (Even after you spelled my name wrong! ;))

Here we go again with hypothesis...Can two planchets be stuck together with one side of each being struck? Black holes were a mystery for decades, but Einstein had it right!

Not, without having evidence of a rim.

It appears you are convinced that you have something special so send it in to PCGS or NGC, ANACS or ICG to get it authenticated. Then you will find out what other members are telling you is correct. IMHO you will be wasting your money but that's the only way you will be convinced. Unless you've been BSing us all along.
