Medieval crusader coin of Bohemund III forced itself on me...honestly

So here I was minding my business, all innocent and full of good intentions not to give Bing and other naysayers the benefit of the doubt by purchasing another coin. Suddenly I was brutally assailed by this nefarious coin of Bohemund III. I swear it forced itself on me.

Despite my loud protestations and best of intentions to safeguard myself from another coin, this insolent coin devised an execrable yet precocious plan to force me to make purchase of it.

I protest my innocence. I didn't do anything. Blame the coin, and not it's reprobate owner.

Glad I gave you a good laugh. I'm ending the year and beginning the new year on a mission to strengthen the quality of my medieval coin collection and my Eastern Empires coin collection...so I'm going to be acquiring quite a few medieval coins, Parthian coins, and maybe a few Sassanian, Arabia Felix, Islamic, etc.

It will probably be mid-year before I return to Greeks and Romans.

Nice one - I do like the helmeted types. I have one that is apparently from Bohemond's minority (haven't looked at the book yet, but this is what the seller records, and I bought it years ago before I kept good records)

I like your coin a lot. I don't care what anyone else thinks, medieval coins are just as awesome as ancients. Sure, they don't have no fancy realistic designs or high relief like many ancients, but they are extremely cool in their own way. Everyone needs at least a dozen medievals in their collection. Two or three dozen is even better.

Shows how ignorant of this time period I am, I thought Bohemund was a Norman. Turns out his family is from Aquitaine, not Normandy:shifty:
How about a coin from a ruler of Norman descent: Edward II

This was an awesome gift from a friend awhile back.

    You want Norman descent?

If you knew how much I spent on this coin, you'd puke, but it has a solid pedigree that cannot be matched. It was owned by the man who literally wrote the entire catalog on English coins, as well as some of the most prominent English collectors and dealers of the 20th century.

I think the dealer marked it intentionally high thinking no morron is going to pay it and he can keep it in his collection. Well, he didn't count on this morron from South Florida.

No shame in suspecting Bohemond was from Normandy since the normans would establish the principality of Antioch. The normans sure got around though - here's my William II from Norman Sicily:

Very cool! Medieval European coin portraits usually leave me cold, but when it's a Crusader in helmet and chain mail, with a big cross on his forehead, I can't complain.

Those impulse purchases are the best ones! Have that problem all the time, especially when I am browsing CNG . Those helmeted coins are always fun to collect as it reminds me of the bygone era of Knights and Chivalry. Here is mine that I "impulse purchased" a while ago, even though my wallet said NO!!!:

Crusaders: Bohémond III (1163-1201) AR Denier, Antioch (Metcalf, Crusades-378)

Obv:+ BOAИVHDVS, helmeted and mailed head left; crescent before, star behind
Rev:+ AИTI:OCHIA, cross pattée; crescent in second quarter

@Sallent just tell yourself that the new year starts November 1. You held your promise.

As for these helmeted knight coins, I have always thought that the potrait looks like a duck, especially with that crescent in front.

Wow. That is a rare one indeed. The dies must have been minty fresh and you got the coiner at the beginning of the day before he got drunk on his ration of beer. I've never seen one so perfect.
