About 8 years ago, I bought a copy of Jetons, Medalets & Tokens: The Low Countries and France, Volume Two by Michael Mitchiner for what I thought was a pretty good price at the time, $150.

Just today, I was researching a jeton for someone, here, but it wasn't listed. So, I thought I might check to see if my reference book has been updated with a second printing. When I Googled the title, I was shocked to find that the first listing was a used copy for sale at $3,995.

It is the same as mine! Are you kidding me? I decided to check another listing, and this one is advertised for sale at $115.

Am I missing something or is this just some nut case who thinks everything is made of gold?

Probably someone hoping to strike it rich off some idiot who doesn't know what he is doing. Who knows, shoot him/her a message and ask.

There is a big time seller on Half.com that has common books in the $5-10 range and starts them all over $100.00. Looking for a cash cow just like on Ebay. A fool and their money... well, you know.

Why? I already have a copy.

To tell him if he can sell his for $4000, you'll sell him yours for $1999 and he can make another two thousand. :p

I've actually done that with those fools - messaged them and told them if they can sell that $10 coin for $1000, I'll sell them as many identical ones as they can offer for $250 each and they can get rich. Very few get it.

Haha, I meant ask him why he has it listed so high, not ask for the book. Poor phrasing I guess.

An idiot like this is just as likely to claim he never received the book and demand a refund.

Amazon will automatically adjust prices based on supply. A friend of mine published a book and only made 10 copies available on Amazon initially, resulting in them all "costing" $5K each. They increased the supply and were able to drop the price down to the much more palatable $19. Thankfully (or sadly) they didn't sell any at $5K!
