Working On Completing A Washington Quarter Series

I've been focused on and committed to completing a Washington Quarter Series (1932-1964) to my satisfaction. No mint error doubled dies or over MM's.

My ballpark goal is AU or better for 1932-1949 and MS or better for 1950-1964, plus keeping an eye out for any nice toners. This will not be easy from where I sit. I would say the set is about 3/4 complete as of today.

Could I spend my $$ more wisely?....probably. I just have my mind wrapped around the vision of a complete DANSCO set when I open it up. I've been looking at too many empty holes for too many years. It's time to step it up!

Just wondering if any of you have or had the same passion or goal as I have had, with completing this set?

I'm afraid to ask this next question, because of what I might see. It might completely demoralize me. However, there's a good chance it will motivate me even more. If you have pictures of your complete set or near complete set, I would sure enjoy seeing them. Thanks!

That's my favorite Dansco, although I started with your album and then upgraded to the with Proofs one after a while. It doesn't include the proofs struck prior to 1968, so I stuck another blank quarter page in there to store my earlier proofs.

I've been going for an uncirculated set in that album. I've got it mostly complete except for the D/S for 32, 35, and 36, and about half a dozen others on the first page. I've got some nice toners in there as well, when I could find them.

I don't have the Dansco but I do have most of the key dates. For some reason I can't upload pictures right now from my iPhone.

Do you have the # for that Dansco - I'd like to start a 38-64 silver Quarter Dansco but I hate clad so no use for me to collect the full Quarter album with them in it just to fill holes!

    Good luck... it's ADDICTIVE!!!

I first started with the series building a slabbed toned registry set. I just did the 1940 - 1964 coins (no over mint marks) as much of the cost to the set is the 1932 - 1939 group. I had a lot of fun building the set, with most coins in the MS66 range (some MS65 for the tougher date/mm and some MS67 for the easier date/mm). After completing about 80% of the set, I went WTF and decided to build a raw 1940 - 1964 toned Dansco set.

That was the plan... then OCD kicked in. At first it came up by saying to myself, "Ah, this second (name your date/mm) looks better than the first one I bought, so I'll get it too". I've now finally gotten myself to stop (more or less) after completing two Danscos, and am in the process finishing off the THIRD Dansco. I'd say most of the coins are in the MS63 - MS65 range.

Along the way another itch started niggling, and I decided to turn one of the Danscos into an (almost) complete set, by including the years 1932 - 1938 and 1965 - 1985. I stopped at 1985 because it is the end of the Dansco page where there is still some relief to the coins. The "flat" design of the 1990's Washingtons does not appeal to me at all. Anyhow the earlier 1930's coins are in the XF/AU range, while the latter 1930's ones are mainly AU58 - MS63. The clad coins are AU58 - MS65. Of the 1930's, I still need the 1938-P. Of the 1965 - 1985 I still need 10 date/mm.

I have been posting my 1940 - 1942 A & B Dansco sets over the last X months. You can probably find some of the threads by searching for specific dates.

... And yes, along the way I DID finish the slabbed 1940 - 1964 Registry set, here is the link to it. ALL the coins are imaged, so you can click either on the individual coin to see that specific coin, or you can click on the "Gallery" button to see all the coins.

Mine is #8140 It has the 1965 thru 1980 pages/slots including proofs, which I'm not thrilled about. But I have them, so I'll be filling those holes.

Thanks!!! I just think clads are worthless and always will remain as such!! Unless just fill the clad holes with proofs?

IMO clads can be alright with the right look and right price... this one cost me 35 cents.

    Good luck.
I have to honestly say (sad but true) while I've collected coins most of my life I've yet to complete anything. It pisses my wife off big time.
I'm a gimini & true to what they say, I change my mind often.
I've gotten close. I figure my interest will cycle & will get back to them eventually.
As you know my now main focus is ancients & theres a lot to know so I learn new constantly. Which is great for a mind that can never make up its mind. I know damned confusing.

They look nice in the book in high grade and are cheap to get the set. Not much reason not to.

    no photos right now, but--
when they announced the States quarters series, I ran and bought an album.

I did all in unc & proofs, except for:

    1932 D -- AU-50
    1932 S--AU-55
    1936 D - U-50, with a triple RPM

All the others in Unc & Proof were reasonable.

[Naturally, not the 1950-1964 in Proofs, just unc.]
