.....its all your alls faults. I come in here and keep seeing all the coins that get posted and it makes me want one of them. It draws my attention away from my Large cents, IHC and shield nickels. So when I went to the local coin store to browse the copper. I bought a 1795 plain edge liberty cap - good details, but a little corrosion on the front, so not worthy of pictures. They had several other worthy cents and 1/2 cents, but I could find one thing or another that I did not like for the price. So my father and I then proceeded to browse every type of US coin in the store. They had several key dates in several of the series, but all were low grade. While chatting with the salesman I remembered I had some airtites that needed filling - I remembered I thought I had 5 21mm and 4 32 mm airtites with nothing to put in them. I thought I got them buy mistake once online - well nothing I collect fits them. So I asked him to just start pulling some coins to fill these extra airtites. Man he pulled some really nice coins - nothing key or really great. The best part is he did not even recommed some of the really high grade coins - so I got what are probably VF T1 and T2 1913 buffs. Kind of cool. But the fun part was the ones for the 32 mm airtites - he pulled a very nice selection for me. Now the first one does not (and nothing I tried) would show the color correctly. It is kind of lite golden color:

And then these which accurately show this coin:

    - if you all keep this up I might have quite a variety of nice coins. :) I really like these two coins. And the worst of it is - I labeled the holders wrong, they are only 30 mm(Isn't that just awful). So know I still have to fill them - plus 3 more nickels(21 mm). :)

A fun day at the coin store - and I even managed to go through all of my fathers morgans for about the third time. All told I have spent about 6 hours viewing coins today - my eyes hurt. Oh - how I suffer. :mouth:

I know what you mean. I keep bouncing back and forth from coins to currency. Might never ever complete a collection except for the first one I've started. Hey, that's okay... I'm having fun and I can't take it with me when I go! So as long as I'm enjoying it now I'm happy.

Don't feel like the lone stranger (Lone Ranger). What you have to do is decide what series you are going to collect. I did the same thing and have decided on peace dollars. I may trade my proof indian penny.

    This is my PROBLEM.
I collect all of the US coinage.
I cannot resist a good deal, so I buy everything.

His posts are one of the reasons I was even looking at these. Usually I limit myself to the copper coins and shield nickels, but yesterday I was hoping to interest my father in something besides Morgans. His problem is he wants to only collect AU/MS type coins. So we looked at everything - and I do me everything. While we were doing this I decided I would start getting common date decent coins in a variety denominations. For me - my IHC is complete, I just want to upgrade maybe 5 coins. My large cent collection - I think I need maybe 16 dates - 1793, 1799 and 1804 I might never own. The shield nickels all I need for a date set is the 1877, 1878 proofs - again I might never own. As it was the salesman helped me pick a couple of good examples - I think from now on I will study up on some grading for different denominations, then visit the store and pick my own. I know I could probably get better prices using auctions, but I find it easier to look at coins in person.

    Yesterday was fun! :)

Thanks Frank for the kind words. I have several and know a little, but am certainly not an expert.

    Kindest Regards Sir

rotobeast, then you run the risk (after you are dead and buried) of your collection being called an accumulation. What you need to do is decide what coin you are going to collect and collect the best you can afford of that series. For me it is the San Francisco mint peace dollars MS65 or better.

Well, I very well can't have that !
    :D

I shall decide on a series and complete it then.
I'll go through my inventory and see what series I am closest with.
I'm assuming Peace Dollars would be the easiest for me to complete, at this time.
I have quite a few Morgans, but there are too many big $$ coins in that set.
    :p
