    Hello again, and happy Halloween!

Just picked this out of a group of "junk" world coins - I'd love to get some opinions if you think it's genuine or counterfeit. If it's real....well. Got some rim dings, but if it's genuine I'm happy to look past them for a key date like this.

Australia - 1925 One Penny (key)
    Mintage of 117,600

I don't see anything that sticks out right away to make me think counterfeit. I've pulled some pretty cool/rare foreign stuff from my LCS's world coin junk bin. Seems that if it isn't a US coin, they couldn't care less. Sometimes you get lucky. Fingers crossed for you.

It doesn't appear to be altered, and like you said, nothing sticks out and screams counterfeit to me. Although with such a low mintage, I'm sure anything is possible. It was in a 2x2 with rusty, old-looking staples, so it's at least been sitting somewhere for a while.

There's a lot of high quality fakes of this date that have been on ebay recently, but your coin is not one of them. Nice find!

Edit: Also it's the "broken leg" variety.

Stole my words Numismat, I agree. I think it's real and it's a "broken leg." Here's mine, my date is a bit more worn then yours. If you found that in a junk box you did really well! I could only dream of finding something like this.

I was looking into that broken leg variety. Mine appears to be an EDS version (most of it still intact, but you can see where it's getting ready to go.)

Yes, pulled it out of a bag of bulk world coins. Also pulled three silver coins (1946 Roosevelt Dime, Sweden 1966 1 Krona, Portugal 1942 2.5 Escudos) and a handful of interesting Mexican copper (1,2,5,10, 20 Centavos) and 1800's stuff. Definitely had not been picked through.

Looks like this one is going into the keeper stack :)
