    Hi all,

Im new to the forum. Ive been interested in coins now for some years but only now feel ready to start collecting. Has anyone got any do's or dont to start me off with ??

I have a gold full sovereign dating to 1904. Ive had this for a while and i wondered how much roughly its worth ?? If its a good price then i might sell it to find some funds to start collecting other coins.
    Any help appreciated !
    Regards
    Mr G

Hi and welcome to the forums :hail: Do's & dont's well dont clean coins that looses value big time :smile Do's buy yourself some books relating to your area of interest so you have some idea of what you are looking at or buying :thumb: The value of the Sov will depend on the condition, it could go from £80 ($160)upwards. Main thing is to enjoy what you are collecting and ask questions

Welcome Mr. Grinch! You've taken the first step in coin collecting.

The second step is to purchase (P & R cOMMISSAR already suggested you do) coin books in your collective or investive interest.

    Subscribe to some coin publications.

Join a Coin Club located in your townot a near-by town or city.

Visit coin shops and see what their "coins for sale" look like and the prices they're asking.

Learn what coin grading is all about.

Look at the difference between business strikes, special strikes. proof-like, and proof coins.

And keep asking and keep learning about coins.

do get a loupe, do buy the book, do the research, do get a couple contemporary price guides i.e. coin prices, www.numismedia.com, or something more specific to your area of interest, do visit lots of shows, don't clean coins, don't trust ebay 100% of the time, don't buy sight unseen

    Hi,
I really want to sell this Sovereign (in a ring by the way), to raise funds for a couple of nice purchases. Ive got a young daughter to cast is tight, and the selling of this would help me to get started. Where would be the best place to sell it ?? Ebay or Jewellers ??

    Any advice appreciated !

Ah if it is in a ring please disregard any values that we have given, coins turned into jewlery as a rule have no numismatic value. I am not sure what a jewler would pay

you would definitely do better on eBay.
