My wife got me a metal detector for my birthday but I have yet to get out and use it. My work seems to have dried up for the time being, so maybe I will be able to get out there and start swinging it within the next week or so. Hopefully I'll have luck on my side (the good kind) when I do get out there, and I have a friend who owns a small property in Pottstown, PA (borough) on the historic registry who has given permission to detect his lot. Fingers crossed! Aside from my "me" moment, it looks like you had a nice haul finding all sorts of stuff. Any idea what that copper disk would have been? And that helmet is pretty neat!
Looks to me you had a good day. These old silver coins coming out of the ground are definitely worth keeping . I understand "junk silver" ain't so junky these days.
I'm not very experienced with marbles, but the one you found looks to be rather old. At least 1940's.
I like the marble........ Coins too. Mr. Ed and his adventures in detecting are most interesting indeed.
Nice little finds! Surprised you didn't find any "Mercs" or "Barbers" with your luck. Oh! What did the marble register at? LOL. I once dug and still have a green Insulator from a power line. I think it's pretty old.
nice finds but dang it!!thought you actually found a real helmet, wanted to see a wearing picture, finding European artifacts in the U.S is possible though.
Of course, the marbles I find are always eyeballed. They are either sticking out of the ground or buried and they pop out whenever I'm searching for a metal object. I always keep them! Here are several marbles and Die from the past couple of years.. And a few 2 light blue hue from my recent hunts. A better picture of yesterday's marble..
Neat! Which metal detector did you get! The metal disk was folded in half. In metal detecting lingo we call it a taco. Usually happens with coins. I unfolded it the best that I could, but it didn't have any significant markings. I have no idea what it could have been. The helmet is solid, and it is flat with no design on the other side. Thanks!
It isn't anything fancy, just a beginner detector. She saw it on Amazon with good reviews for getting into the hobby, but it's a Dr Otek mt-xr. It's assembled, but that's about it for now. Hopefully I can get out this week to try it out!
