If you like Gallienus silvered ants.... a little bird tells me that a lot have recently hit US shores ;} keep your eyes open
Hi Doug, there are plenty of Sestertii of Gallienus around, but I have never seen one on offer that I found compatible to my Valerian in terms of a round flan, a nice portrait, good metal, and not too much dark patina:
@zumbly, very sharp strike on that interesting OP coin As you were asking here are a few of his, including a sestertius (for @Julius Germanicus) Gallienus, Antoninianus Rome mint IMP GALLIENVS AVG, radiate head right APOLLINI CONS AVG, Griffin left. My experience has missed the round feature but I see several online. All I have is this Valerian which has a portrait and that is about all.
Hi all, Sorry to resurrect an old thread but... it came up when I was looking for what peace Gallienus had could have founded (PAX FVNDATA) in 265. Thanks for the answers! Anyway, the mailbox had this coin for me today and I really like it. As mentioned before, much of Gallienus' coinage is of the "a face only a mother could love" type. However these Asian mint coins really can be really cool. The coin is jet black and very hard to get a decent photo of but I managed to get an ok iphone photo. PS: As an added bonus, Gallienus is sporting a very slick looking neck beard. PPS: Also, sorry the image sizes are giant... I'll slim them down next time! Gallienus Ob: GALLIENVS AVG R: PAX FVNDATA Throphy between two captives Exergue: Plam branch RIC 652a, Göbl 1635?, Sear 10306 3.94 grams, 22.5mm
Here is my coin of the OP type: PAX FVNDATA Peace founded by winning. Take their arms and take the men captive and there will be no more fighting--peace!
