LOL, I KNOW that I did not have time to take a great picture... However, I wanted to post this as I will be very busy over the next few weeks. I had posted my Postumus Ant before, and it was VERY green. @YOC graciously PM'd me and offered to use his special sauce and clean the Great Gobs of Green Gook off my coin. It was not a high ticket spend for the coin, so it was a wonderful deal he offered. I received it last Friday just prior to my leaving for a trip for the week. I returned yesterday, and looked at it again. WOW... BIG change! YOC mentioned that mine even has SILVER on it, which you could NEVER had seen in the original Green state that I received it. Here is the Green Gook BEFORE pic: And... Here is my AFTER pic that I just received: (Forgive my fast and rough photography, but the results are still dramatic!) Postumus, 259-268 AD antoninianus, 20 mm, 3.2 gm, Cologne Obv: IMP C POSTVMVS PF AVG Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right Rev: PROVIDENTIA AVG, Providentia standing left holding globe and transverse scepter I thought it was a RARE GREEN Ant... (Only ONE known...and I HAD it!) Now I have a wonderful SILVERED Ant... AWESOME! Please feel free to post your GREEN coins, or any BEFORE and AFTER cleaned coins. EXTRA POINTS for posting BETTER pics than mine!
WOW !! it seems that both your coin and @Pishpash's example each had substantial silvering beneath the gook/encrustations....I'm totally impressed, especially now that I realize it just wasn't nicely cleaned down to bare metal. Hmm, does @YOC give Senior Citizen or Veteran discounts??
This was my first cleaning job, my methods are more harsh than those used by YOC and my method doesn't work on hoard coins. Before After
Thank You @Alegandron, @Pishpash, @YOC, @John Anthony, @TIF, @tbc and the others who can tell them I am starting to see the light. It may just be a matter of "degree" or "words" (corrosion vs BD). While these coins all have different stages of green verdigris that comes off with a good soak, I still cannot understand or believe that the "special sauces" we all use was the only thing that "restored" Pish's coin on another thread. That's why I requested to use her photo. THESE EXAMPLES ALL CAN BE CONSIDERED COIN CONSERVATION.
