Well again this year there is going to be a small coin show in KY!! For all of us that don't get to large shows such as FUN and such I guess this one is better than nothing! Its going to be in Irvine KY on July 28 (last Sat. in July) at the Citizens Guarantee Bank, 25 River Dr. No charge at the door---to enter I think you go around back an up some stairs..... I think so far there are only 3 dealers---last year the dealers that set up did pretty good because there was a good turn out. That is where I picked up my 1909-S IHC in VF, and I hope to find some more good deals this year! If anyone is going to get to come PM me and maybe we can met up! Speedy
You really have my sympathy. Around the Chicago area there are a minimum of 3 coin shows a month and all within 15 miles of my house. Of course we also have gun shows, knife shows, camera shows, computer shows, dog shows, cat shows and probably a lot more that I don't go to. The coin shows are great sometimes. Went to one of them last Sunday and one more coming up this Sunday. Just had a big one at the Rosemont Convention Center but way to expensive for me. I suggest you move here. Good luck at the next show.
Funny, isn't that the same way that they show people entering a drug dealer's house in the movies. LOL Just kidding, but ya gotta admit that it does sound secretive. Do you have to knock three times and ask for "Roy"? ("Hey, Roy, ya got the stuff?" "Ya mean drugs?" "NO, da coins.")
Man even i feel bad for you even with the shortage of coin shows around here, I usually go to 1 a month.
I go to maybe 1-2 shows a year---there is a larger one every fall that has maybe 30-50 dealers. Maybe I should move!!! Speedy
I wish I could make it. And I wish I could get to one of the major shows. Too far or the timing isn't right. And - Speedy - you should stay in Kentucky. For some reason I believe they frown on deer(squirrel or rabbit) hunting in your backyard in the cities. When I lived on Barren River - a state trooper and his soon would sit in my pontoon boat at the back of my drive way to wait for the little critters. I wish I had the house now so I could use the metal detector to search for coins. Back then all I did was buy from the mint.
Yeah...that would be a bummer....There were 3 deer about 100YD's behind my house tonight Well---I'll miss meeting you again this year...but maybe you will be able to make it to the Fall show in Louisville? Speedy
Maybe it's a good thing to only have a few dealers and a lot of buyers. If they turn over their inventory faster maybe there will be new material this year? Even if it's only three of them, that's still better than 60 of them who are just passing the same stuff back and forth month after month, year after year. Good luck. :thumb:
Good luck in your hunt for new and different coins at the upcomming show. Actually you should be feeling fortunate, as we haven't had a coin show in these parts since they issued the first silver dollar. Just kidding, but they are very seldom, if ever, held in these parts. The closest would be the ANA show in Colorado which draws some fairly large crowds.
Hey OldDan! I haven't seen you in awhile!! I think this show will be a good one---the one guy seems to always have some of the harder to find type of coins and that is what I like to at least look at A friend of mine is having me sell some of his coins so I hope to have some new and different coins there also. I'll try to post a show report after its over here on CT! Speedy
There are some really goods and bads wherever you go you know. True around Chicago there are so many shows that you could go to a show of some type every week. As noted anywhere from 3 and up coin shows a month, every month. Several gun shows a year at several different places. Then naturally every weekend a carnival or such at almost every corner. Some suburbs have them for the entire town like Itasca just had. Taste of Chicago is becoming very famous everywhere and if you read the news they had hundreds of illnesses there this year. We have many zoos, museums, planatariums, shed Aquarium, Parks and on and on and on. So should you move here? My son moved to Tennessee. Alll my relatives moved to Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, etc. Why? Mostly because in spite of all the good things we have we also have: About 50,000 cars stolen per year. Minimum of 700 murders per year in Chicago city limits and more in the suburbs. More robberies and rapes that ever get reported due to no room on the police blodders. No one can leave a door unlocked. Garages have security systems. Police stop people that just look wrong. Becoming difficult to use the English Language in stores. Can't use the parks at night unless you have an army with you. Never have mail delivered that has coins, guns, stamps, etc showing on the cover. Yeah Speedy, move here and watch how fast you go back.
