Please let me know what you all think. Thanks. Ummm the attachment button is not working. I am attempting to fix as I post this to try and unstick it. Standby. Ryan
I would say that it will normally grade AU-50 but being that it is from the New Orleans Mint, a TPG might give it a boost to AU-55 and maybe even AU-58! It could fetch between $1,500 and $1,800 at AU-50 but $2,500 to $3,000 or more at AU-55 and $6,000 to $7,000 if it happened to get an AU-58 grade. These are not the actual values noted in the Coin Values magazine but what could generally be expected on the actual Coin M Market. Nice key date coin! Good luck! Frank
I'll agree with AU50. However, there were the usual problems with that year's striking in NO, and the strikes are rarely full, so that weakness on the eagle's breast may be due to striking and not slight circulation. If this is the case, you have a pretty valuable piece. Personally, I'd say that coin needs to be professionaly certified. According to Bowers in "A Guide Book of Morgan Silver Dollars", the difference between an AU and MS60 is $15,150.00, and pretty much triples every grade thereafter. Guy~
I would call it an XF-45 if I was buying it and an AU-50 if I was selling it. However, in all honesty, that is a coin I would send in to a TPG (probably ANACS, as the coin may have been cleaned) for grading and authentication. Pictures can be difficult to judge by, but I had a couple bring 7 dollars into the ANA today for me to look at, and 6 of them were counterfeit, including a fake 1922 Peace Dollar, believe it or not. So, authentication is important.
Well, it is a coin I am entertaining purchasing. I can get a fantastic price on it, but I am a little worried someone says it might be cleaned. Anymore opinions on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Ryan
I gotta disagree with most folks opinions on this one, I think it's an XF40 at best. Yes O mint coins are weakly struck for the most part. But that coin has a good bit of wear on it. The pics are not the best for judging it but I would also say that it likely had an old cleaning.
