That helped but i have one that looks nothing like any of those. Mine has alot of dd. Almost the whole coin has a dd error.
Here is a link to a picture. This picture does not do it justice at all and I was mainly focusing on the date. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y163/cliff_f/IMG_5252.jpg
Agreed. The mintmark also has the same effect in the same direction. Also the doubling appears "shelf-like".
Just to clarify.... it's not considered an error. It's a result of the normal process of coin production. Here's a link that identifies collectible and non-collectible doubling: http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/OtherFormsOfDoubling.htm
It's common among all years. In very extreme cases it can be collectible, but I don't think yours is extreme enough to command any premium.
Thanks for all the help. I am fairly new at collecting coins and this was the first DD. I have found, It is still a pretty neat find to me. Here are a couple more pictures.
Just one other point... the term is Doubled Die. Just keep hunting, you never know what you may come across. Good luck and keep posting!
Look in the upper S in TRUST and see if you see this short die gouge. If you do then you've got a doubled die(not the doubling you were pointing out)! The bad news is it's from a doubled master hub which effected almost half of all 72's minted at all three mints. The good news is that because they are so easy to find you can get your hands on one and teach yourself what a true doubling from a doubled die looks like. If your coin has that die gouge and you're having trouble spotting the doubling, click on the link below the picture. http://www.ncadd98.org/web_documents/the_master_die.pdf
