The variety is obviously the key factor for this coin, I don,t know if there is any added value for Ike varieties, but it is a point of interest for many. I respect the interest placed in these varieties.
The FEV variety their is. Occasionally some auctions go low like anything else but there is generally a nice premium for the variety which is reflected in the ebay sales
I wouldn,t mind owning one in a ms65 or so cond. I checked all my 71-d Ikes again for FEV but no luck in 7 examples.
Hey Rick, as you may or may not be aware but the gentleman that owned that site passed away suddenly and unexpectedly a few months ago. I don't believe that he had prepared to have his information passed on in the event of an emergency or untimely ending. From what I have gathered from talking to other IKE collectors is that several "friends" have reached out to his family to acquire the rights to his research and his family is not being so generous. This is of much concern because Tom dedicated his life to not only collecting the information, but ultimately building that site. This guy's passion was IKEs. I remember staying up well past my bedtime many times talking with him about IKEs. He was a good guy and will be missed. Hopefully, his data will be secured one day and his information will be shared again.
I think it's in the courts as we speak, thats why the site ( lawyers ) pick it up . Not sure what court, but I do know the law site well ...
You can't exactly fault the family for their position. Have the "friends" offered the family money for the information or domain rights? They might be (and rightfully so) afraid that they'll give away the information to someone who will then write a book / build a website that generates a revenue stream from the information.
It's almost been a year since Tom passed . Call it a stroke of luck, but I was suppose to send him some coins a week before he passed, but instead I told him I slab them first and then send them his way .
Yeah, except the trademark owner sadly passed away recently from a brain aneurysm Edit: oops, didn't go to page 2 first. So sad about Tom
Good to see you here again, Joe. You should do us all a favor and start a new thread with that PL Columbian medal you got several months ago!
One of these days.....one of these days......lol I was thinking about doing a road trip up to see you so you could photograph them but then I remembered that we would probably kill each other....best to wait until after the election.
I think someone trying to buy the trade mark from the family . I've been watching for something like this to happen ...
I knew Tom and his work. He sent me one of his publications so I could use his numbering system. My guess is that Tom would have gladly turned his website over to someone in the IKE group FOR FREE so they could continue adding new discoveries. Perhaps the family needs money and this is an option they have dismissed.
Coin came today so I figured I take a couple of images . One of the Eagles head and the other one of some feathers coming off the neck .
Hey Lee, what do you know about the obverse die on these, Steve Palladino and I are working on figuring it out, last image he wanted was the crack coming off the " Y " . We know the Mint-Mark a Re-Punch, date at least doubled and I think steve watching the World Series . Any help would be grateful Lee .
