i would like to applaude canada for issueing the coins for the 2010 olimpics . the wheelchair curling (july 07) and (paralympics june 2009) show the disabled in a favirable way. it is a shame that the USA does not show disabled people on our coinage. does any one know if any other country has disabled persons on their coinage or is Canada the first ? hopfully one of the 3 special coins in this set will have a disabled olimpic winner on it.
Well in a way the United States does show a disabled person on a coin. Our dime has a portrait of Franklin D. Roosevelt and he was disabled. His portrait was put on the dime shortly after his death because of his support for the march of dimes program to fight polio. Lou
I dont see much of a point to create coins for certain demographics. For example why doesnt the US create a Spanish american heritage coin? Or better yet an illegal immigrant coin depicting a mexican crossing the boarder. sorry If im being slightly politically incorrect
Wooden Spoon: Don't worry, in the theme of political correctness we will soon have coins with Spanish legends. Then coins in every language. We can't insult ANYONE after all. Heck, then we would expect them to come here and learn our language. Instead, lets all go out and learn Farsi, or what ever.
hey guys! I hear what you are saying and would support this thread if it were in the forum in which it belongs. Seems to me you should have it moved to the proper location...; you can get the sheriff to do that for you.
