    Caligula (37 – 41 A.D.)

    Dupondius,26.5 mm, 12.25 g.

    Rome mint, (37 - 38 A.D.), memorial issue for Germanicus

    Obv: GERMANICVS CAESAR, Germanicus standing in ornamented slow quadriga right, holding eagle-tipped scepter.

    Rev: SIGNIS – RECEPT / DEVICTIS – GERM / S – C, around standing figure of Germanicus, bare-headed & cuirassed, raising his right hand, holding Aquila in his left hand.

    F, green patina, nice surfaces.

    I see no green patina but these usually have rougher surfaces so this one is quite fine.

    Yes a very sweet type of coin !
    Generally speaking, coins struck in the name of Germanicus are nice to collect, although, because of a thick patina, not easy to photography. Here are the two specimens in my trays at the moment :

    I love you Germanicvs dupondius, Ro. A very historical coin, and yours has nice surfaces. Nice addition to your collection!

    I showed my Germanicvs dupondius a few days ago, but here is an As, struck in his name by his brother.

    GERMANICUS, father of Caligula, †AD 19. As, posthumous, struck by Claudius, about 42-43.

    OBV: GERMANICVS CAESAR TI AVG F DIVI AVG N, head right.
    REV: TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG GERM P M TR P IMP PP, in the middle SC. RIC 106.
